1. The result was only half an emancipation, a cul-de-sac that was reinforced in the final separation of bourgeois economic existence from the abstract political mode of existence as citizens.

Das Resultat war eine halbierte Emanzipation, eine Sackgasse, die sich in der endgültigen Trennung von bürgerlichem, ökonomischem Dasein und der abstrakten politischen Existenzweise als StaatsbürgerInnen verfestigte.

2. To conclude, I hope that the valuable compromise reached between the groups on such an agonising issue can garner the widest consensus in Parliament and that the adoption of the joint resolution will bring forth concrete action from all of our institutions and nations, as well as adequate investment in infrastructure and transport, medical equipment, training for equipment operators, education, safety and policies for the emancipation of women, so that this crucial goal for civilisation can be reached by 2015.

Abschließend hoffe ich, dass der zwischen den Fraktionen zu einem so erschütternden Thema erzielte löbliche Kompromiss im Parlament breitestmögliche Zustimmung finden möge und dass die Annahme des gemeinsamen Entschließungsantrags zu konkreten Schritten aller unserer Institutionen und Länder sowie zu entsprechenden Investitionen in Infrastrukturen und Verkehrsmittel, medizinisches Gerät, Schulung des Bedienungspersonals, Bildung, Sicherheit und politische Maßnahmen zur Emanzipierung der Frauen führen wird, damit dieses für die Zivilisation elementare Ziel bis 2015 erreicht werden kann .

Stresses that a new thematic programme on ‘Investing in People’ must focus on – but not be limited to – the achievement of those MDGs which are most off-track, with particular attention to countries and regions with critical MDG indicators; emphasises that basic education and alphabetisation are the starting point for the process of awareness raising and for development ownership; therefore calls for the programme to include a focus on education as a tool for emancipation and participation;

betont, dass ein neues thematisches Programm unter dem Motto „In Menschen investieren“ den Schwerpunkt auf die Erreichung der Millenniums-Entwicklungsziele legen muss, die noch am weitesten von der Zielsetzung entfernt sind, jedoch nicht darauf beschränkt sein darf, und Ländern und Regionen mit kritischen MDG-Indikatoren besondere Aufmerksamkeit schenken muss; betont, dass Grundbildung und Alphabetisierung die Ausgangspunkte für den Sensibilisierungsprozess und die Eigenverantwortung der Menschen für die Entwicklung sind; fordert daher, dass in dem Programm ein Schwerpunkt auf Bildung als Mittel der Emanzipation und Teilhabe gesetzt wird;
